KCBS-FM 93.1 is no longer Arrow93, but is now Jack-FM, a spinoff of a new format featured in a lot of cities, particularly in New York, Houston, and cities in Canada.

The "playing what we want" concept, originated by New York programmer "Cadillac Jack" Garrett, is just an expansion of the usual classic rock playlist to about 1200 songs from 4 decades. Kevin Weatherby, mastermind behind KROQ-FM back when it was still good, compares the format to listening to an iPod in shuttle mode. (Except most of us would probably not load "Funkytown" on our iPods...)

It's a cookie-cutter format for the most part, though many of the cities playing it do have DJs. Will it fly in LA? Take a listen to the streams at http://www.931jackfm.com/. http://www.jackontheweb.com, or http://www.jack.fm and see if you think the format travels...
